Other Views of Casey

Casey Frank was born in Buffalo New York in 1949, where he was schooled by the Jesuits at Canisius High School. He later earned an undergraduate degree in American Studies from the State University of New York. While a student he worked as a mental health aide at Meyer Memorial Hospital.

In high school the Jesuits taught him how to think critically. Subsequent training at the Rochester Zen Center taught him instead, as Ludwig Wittgenstein said: "Don't think, look!" Casey Frank was ordained as a monk in this ancient and practical discipline in 1974, and also trained there as a lay student of Roshi Philip Kapleau, author of The Three Pillars of Zen.

Casey Frank became the construction foreman at the Center. The Rochester Preservation Board, which had to approve its renovation, stated: "The final result is a magnificent addition to the Zen Center facility in Rochester and the salvation of one of the most important pieces of architecture in the city." A few years later, when a city-wide contest was held to pick favorite restoration projects, the Center was named "The People's Choice" by a write-in ballot.

As a restoration designer and woodworker, he later co-founded Builders Guild, Inc., specializing in the restoration of historic homes, including one on The National Register of Historic Places. He also ran a professional house inspection service for almost 20 years, known as Safe at Home.

Mr. Frank also worked on the issue of nuclear weapons proliferation. In1982-84 he was the Education Chairman of the Genesee Nuclear Disarmament Network in Western New York, working on voter registration, lobbying, distributing educational materials, and doing presentations, at colleges and churches. He worked on two congressional campaigns, and was director of the local chapter of the national PAC Freeze Voter 84.

Casey Frank graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston in 1991. The Northeastern program is distinctive. Students complete a traditional first year, and then alternate three months interning full time, with attending classes. Casey Frank did internships at Pike's Peak Legal Services in Colorado Springs, at Bernstein & Bronstein and Gaston & Snow in Boston, and at Buck & Gordon in Seattle.

Mr. Frank obtained a law license in Massachusetts in 1991, but could not resist the allure of the Rockies, so he also obtained a license in Colorado, and went to work for noted Denver attorney E. Michael Canges, who has been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America." Mr. Frank was also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court of Colorado in 1993.

Casey Frank, Attorney & Counselor was founded in 1994 as a comprehensive trial and business practice serving individuals and small businesses.

Since 1993, Casey Frank has sat on the medical ethics committees of Mercy Medical Center and now the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He contributes to the evaluation and improvement of trying clinical cases, and also teaches classes on medical ethics, surrogacy, and informed consent. In 2003, Casey Frank became a Faculty Associate, at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities, at the UC Health Sciences Center, in addition to his business and trial practice.
